We had 10 Roeper players compete in the K-6 Michigan Scholastic Team Chess Championships on Saturday February 8 at Cass Tech High School in Detroit.
The Roeper K-3 team (Devan Shah, Jonathan Gruber, Evan Clark, and Grace Zhang) took ninth place in their division.
The Roeper A Team in the K-6 Championship Division took sixth place in their division (Kal Vanderhoek, Noah Gibbs, Henry Diemer, and Goni Wong).
The Roeper B Team in the K-6 Championship Division did very well while playing with only 3 players and finished with 3 our of 5 team points. (Ohad Wong, Julian Andare, and Grayson Arakelian)
We had several players earn individual medals for their wins.
Gold (5 wins out of 5) - Kal
Silver (4 wins, or 4 wins and a draw out of 5) - Ohad, Devan
Bronze (3 wins and a draw) - Goni, Noah, Julian
Every one of these Roeper students made us proud and worked their hardest! We are pleased for them and really looking forward to seeing how they all do at Nationals.
The K-3 trophy will be on display at the Lower School, and the K-6 trophy will be on display at the Middle School. It's been a while since Roeper Middle School had a trophy to display, but with Bryan's new chess elective coming during the third signup at the MS, we are hoping for more soon!!! :-)
