Introducing Celia Kaechele, M/US Social Studies Teacher

From Middle and Upper School Director, Susannah Nichols: Celia has an undergrad degree from U of M inPolitical science and international studies and a JD from Michigan State where she was the editor-in-chief of the Michigan State Law Review. Afterpracticing law, she discovered through volunteer work that she found most joy from a MUN program. She shared, "I have developed a passion for guiding students, fostering critical thinking, and creating engaging learning environments, and I am excited about doing that kind of work full-time."

 

What is your new position at Roeper - details like what courses you will be teaching, are you working with other faculty? 
I will be teaching 7^th grade American Studies and 11^th/12^th grade American Government to start, as well as helping Adam with the Middle School Model UN program.

 

What were one or two highlights of your life? 
Getting married on Belle Isle in 2020 with a small group of our closest family and friends, and then getting to celebrate our first anniversary in style with a big reception for everyone who couldn’t attend the year before.

 

If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be and why?  
New Zealand – everything about it seems breathtaking!

What are some things you'd like to share about yourself, your family and birthplace?
I am a native Michigander, originally from Grand Rapids. I now live with my husband Ben (a Roeper alum!) in Detroit.

 

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?  
I am a runner, and you can find me racing anything from a 5k to a marathon (maybe someday even an ultramarathon). I also love watching the WNBA, and I’m usually cheering for the Las Vegas Aces.  

 

What is a topic or skill that you love to teach or share and why?
I LOVE talking about the Olympics. My classroom is a little short on decorations right now, but the one thing I do have is a big Olympic flag.

   

What is it that appealed to you about Roeper when you took the job? 
I’m sure everyone says it, but it has to be the sense of community you feel as soon as you walk in the door. I would have loved Roeper as a student, and I’m so excited to be a part of it now.
