Upper School Science Teacher, Barbara Lasecki-Webb, presents our #TeacherFeature this week. We're highlighting Roeper teachers as they show off their home workspaces and give insights into how they're approaching the Roeper Home Learning Program.
"There is so much you do not have control over when you are learning in this new online world, so I believe it is important to recognize what you do have control over and take it. Here are a few quick-start suggestions:
- Create a workspace separate from your living space. It is important to feel relief when the day is over. Having the ability to leave the physical area of “school” allows your brain and body a very needed chance to “reset”.
- Create an organizational hyperdoc. Each class may use slightly different online resources and applications that each have their own usernames and passwords or logins. Have a single place where you can keep this information that is readily accessible. This can be as simple as a Word or Excel file to which you pin to your desktop.
- BACK UP YOUR WORK. Bad things can happen, but you can mitigate the level of stress they impose by backing up your work. This could be to an external hard drive, to a portable flash drive or to an online resource accessible via any internet linked device like Google drive. Never leave your only copy on a single device.
- Be proactive in communication. Everyone understands that this is not easy. Be upfront and honest with your teachers. Reach out through email proactively if you are struggling. Don’t wait until you fall behind and feel overwhelmed."
