Roeper Senior Steven Raphael is Co-Champion of the Michigan Math Prize Competition

Roeper senior Steven Raphael tied for 1st place on the 63rd annual Michigan Math Prize Competition (MMPC). The results of the competition were announced at the MMPC Banquet on Saturday March 7th at Albion College. Two other students, a junior from Okemos High School and a junior from Troy High School, also tied for 1st place. All three 1st place winners achieved a perfect score on Part II of the exam, and each of them received a $2500 college scholarship.
Over 3700 Michigan high school students took the two-part MMPC exam this year. Part 1 of the exam is open to all Michigan high school students. Of those students, the top 1000 qualified for Part II of the exam which consists of 5 challenging mathematical proof problems. Approximately $20,000 in scholarships ranging from $250 to $2500 were awarded this year.
