Introducing Mary Shutty! Lower School Administrative Assistant

Carolyn Borman
We know that everyone wants to know about our new faculty and staff so we ask our new folks to fill out a questionnaire to help us get to know about them. Here we are happy to introduce and welcome our new Lower School Administrative Assistant, Mary Shutty.

From Lower School Director, Megan Stott: Mary is a graduate of Michigan State University and comes to us with experience working in community relations to promote events for a non-profit LGBTQ+ community center.  Mary has also worked in Development to help create and support trainings in DEIJ. Mary has coordinated marketing efforts in non-profit to the general public through a community engagement team.

Mary's responses to the questionnaire:

What is your new position at Roeper – What is the work you will be doing?
I will be the Administrative Assistant for the Lower School – you’ll see me at the front office in the Domes every morning!

What were one or two highlights of your life?
I got to see Taylor Swift this summer in Detroit and it was the most incredible concert of my life.

If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be and why?
I think I would live in southern California for a year just for the sunshine.

What are some things you'd like to share about yourself, your family and birthplace?
I’m the youngest of five kids and we were born in Columbus, Indiana. Believe it or not, they made a movie about the town starring John Cho featuring some of the beautiful architecture you can find there. My siblings are all individuals I look up to and my parents are the most selfless people I have ever known.

What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
I love spending time with friends and family, camping, entertaining, and doing puzzles.

What is it that appealed to you about Roeper when you took the job?
I loved Roeper’s message and its focus on DEIJ. Education is so important since the kids of today are the us of tomorrow and helping them grow into kind, self-assured, passionate people is something I wanted to be a part of.
