Welcome Carole!
From Lower School Director, Meghan Stott: I am delighted to welcome Carole Carlier to the Roeper School, as the new Lower and Middle School French Teacher. Originally from Brussels, Belgium, Carole comes to us with over a decade of teaching experience, primarily to Elementary and Middle School aged students. From Belgium, she and her family moved to Brazil and then in 2018 they moved to Michigan. Prior to joining Roeper, Carole taught French at both Bloomfield Maples Montessori School and Cranbrook. Carole’s ability to inspire and deliver engaging lessons came through her sample lesson at the end of the previous school year. She is passionate about learning languages, loves to read, travel and go to the cinema.
What is your new position at Roeper - details like what courses you will be teaching, are you working with other faculty? I’ll be teaching French at the Lower school and Middle school.
What were one or two highlights of your life?
This summer I had the chance to go back to Europe and spend one month with my family and friends. We travelled in Belgium, France and Spain and had so many quality times with people that we cherish and love.
I believe that every day is a gift, every experience memorable and I’m extremely grateful and excited with all the joy and the new adventure that my new position at Roeper is going to bring me this year.
If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be and why?
I would like to experience life in Australia as I’m a huge fan of big spaces and nature and wildlife.
What are some things you'd like to share about yourself, your family and birthplace?
I’m originally from Brussels-Belgium. I have 2 daughters, Emma is 13 and Camille is 11 and I have my lovely chocolate lab, Lola. I lived 3 years in Brazil and after this beautiful experience we moved to the US. It’s our 6th year in Michigan and we like it here!
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
I like to travel and discover new parts of the world. We have been doing some RV trips these past years and it was amazing. I like this kind of trip close to nature, sporty with beautiful hikes during the day and magic at night while observing the stars around a fire camp. Sport has an important place in my family. My husband runs marathons, my daughters play both soccer and I have been playing tennis all my life.
What is a topic or skill that you love to teach or share and why?
I have always liked the languages and have been used to learning it since Belgium is a bilingual country. People speak French and Dutch and connect in both languages constantly. I learned Portuguese when I was living in Brazil and of course English at school. I'm proud to share - introduce the French language and culture to my students and I look forward to a great year of learning, having fun, and discovering.
What is it that appealed to you about Roeper when you took the job?
I've been teaching in different schools throughout my career, I have always been teaching in schools with a strong community, a caring culture where students can learn with passion and integrity- feel respected and supported by the teachers and staff around them. I believe Roeper has lots of values that I align within my daily life. I feel lucky to join this community and look forward to my first year!
