Introducing Akwia Tilton, LS & MS Physical Education Teacher
Carolyn Borman
From Upper School Director, Susannah Nichols: As a student here at Roeper, I remember Akwia as an unfailingly kind spirit; thoughtful and honest writer; and an incredible athlete who carried herself with humility and good humor. In her interview, we were particularly moved by her love and appreciation for what Roeper had given to her and how she hoped to extend similar opportunities to other students.
What is your new position at Roeper - details like what courses you will be teaching, are you working with other faculty?
I will be teaching Elementary PE with Deb, and Middle school health with Todd.
What were one or two highlights of your life? I think my best highlight is coming to Roeper in 9th grade and having a great experience in both the academic area and athletic as well.
If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be and why?
I like Michigan, but maybe on the western side of the state. Michigan is just so pretty to me.
What are some things you'd like to share about yourself, your family and birthplace?
Both my brother and I are graduates of The Roeper School; he loved it so much I had to try Roeper out as well so glad I did.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?
I like to hang out with my dog Jude and Cat Tofu and watch most sports during their seasons!
What is a topic or skill that you love to teach or share and why? I really love to work in athletics track. Working with the sprinters and jumpers is really exciting and seeing the athletes gain more and more confidence in themselves.
What is it that appealed to you about Roeper when you took the job?
