We invite the community to join students as they share their award-winning pieces Friday, May 12 at 7 p.m. in the Upper School’s Acheson Theater during the team’s annual Forensics Night!

The 2022-23 Roeper High School Forensics Team’s season came to an end April 28th and 29th at the Class B/CD Michigan Interscholastic Forensic Association (MIFA) State Tournament. Based on students’ cumulative season scores and Regionals performances, all 15 members qualified to participate, earning their individual place among the top 24 students from across the State in each category.

In preparation, team members logged hundreds of personal practice hours and competed in at least three all-day Saturday tournaments over the course of two months. At each tournament the team placed in the top three in their class, and during this past weekend the students’ collective performances and individual bests earned Roeper a well-deserved third place finish out of 12 schools in MIFA Class CD States.

Every student had amazing season-end performances, including Daniel Hernanz 20th in informative, Graycin Bleiberg 19th in dramatic interpretation, Meira Gable 17th in oratory, Ilan Ben-Gal 16th and Cosmo Steffke 13th in sales, and Kaitlyn Gruber 14th in storytelling 9/10. Three students were named top 12 semi-finalists: Caleb Hoover 10th in dramatic interpretation, Vijval Nandigala 9th in impromptu, and Hollis Perry 8th in poetry. Four were state finalists, placing in the top six students in the entire state in their category: Eli Miller placed 5th in program oral interpretation, Signe Smith 3rd in poetry, Oskar Zakonjsek was 2nd in informative, and Ruby McKeever and Vaughn Roycraft won the coveted State Champion title by placing 1st in duo interpretation.
