Roeper student Wins Bronze at International Fencing World Cup

Roeper 10th grade student, Adeline Senic, won the Bronze medal at the Manchester Cadet Under 17 world cup this weekend.  The world cup featured more than 90 fencers from 17 countries.  She is the Y14 US national champion and is ranked tenth in the United State in the under 17 category.  This was her first world cup, so she went into the event unranked.

In preliminary pool rounds Adeline was undefeated and only received five touches.  She defeated the top seed in the pool - Gabola from Italy 5-3, and bested all the other opponents 5-1 or 5-0.  She entered the direct elimination seeded fourth which earned her a bye to the round of 64.

Adeline then fenced her way through the round of 32 through to the semi-finals and finally fell to Italian Greta Saioni by one point 15 - 14. The result earns her 50 European world cup points moving her up to 32nd of more than 400 ranked fencers in the European circuit.

Next step for Adeline will be to fence in Under 17 world cups in November in Nuremberg, Germany and Budapest, Hungary.  She trains at Renaissance Fencing Club in Troy and has been fencing for 7 years.

Congratulations Adeline!
