Anjali Sharma and Ellaree Zack Awarded Excellence at Science Fair
Carolyn Borman
Congratulations to 8th graders Anjali Sharma and Ellaree Zack for receiving Awards of Excellence for their projects entered in the Science and Engineering Fair of Metropolitan Detroit.
Anjali's project was "Solve Hunger: Reducing Food Insecurity in America". The project was to build a food pantry app meant to reduce wait times. The app will allow the customer to see where all the food pantries are, their hours, what is in stock, and book pick-up times, thus reducing wait times. She chose this because the Covid-19 pandemic has caused many people to lose their jobs and are relying on food pantries for food. It can be difficult for people to find information about food bank location, hours, and food availability. One very common problem is the two to three-hour-long wait times at pantries.
Ellaree's project was "Caffeine and the World of Typing". She found this topic interesting and wanted to learn more about the effects of caffeine. This experiment explored the difference between doing a task with and without caffeine consumption. To do this she took into account both the time it took to type a 500 word essay and the number of incorrect words.
