Responding to The Capitol Insurrection as a Parent Community

Sarah Miller
Honoring the social justice foundation that our school was built upon, we would like to invite our parent community to engage in dialogue about the events that took place at our capitol on January 6th, 2021. As the parents of Roeper students, we feel called to model how we live our social justice philosophy when events like this occur. By coming together to process these events, we are better prepared to process with our children and to work together to determine how we, as a school community, determine what values we stand for. It is in learning from each other and with each other that we nurture a Roeper community that is united in demonstrating to our students how we "engage as a community with compassion for each other and the world."

WAAG (White Antiracist Ally Group) and the Families of Color Affinity Group invite you to join separate meetings taking place on Tuesday, January 26th, to begin the work of processing these events in affinity spaces. The RPC then invites us to combine as a full community in February to ensure that, as Roeper parents, we are modeling our philosophy and core tenets for our children.

These meetings will happen concurrently on Tuesday, January 26th from 6:30-8:00pm. Please join whichever one aligns with how you identify.

Watch for the weekly all school newsletter on the day of the events, January 26th, for the Zoom links.
