Roeper’s Middle School and Varsity teams hosted their first cross-country meet in a handful of years on 9/3 against Oakland Christian and Southfield Christian. The meet was located at Beverly Park in Beverly Hills. Natalie Gibbs was Roeper’s Middle School low runner of the day with a two-mile time of 16:05. Sophia Salinas was close behind with a time of 16:16. Will Claypool, running his first ever cross-country race, led the boys with a time of 16:57. The MS team will return to Beverly Park for a dual meet against Whitmore Lake on Thursday 9/10.
The Varsity won the tri-meet with a combined score of 38. Senior captain Will Hoover took first place with a 5K time of 19:06. Jonnie Dunne finished in 6th place in his first ever cross-country race with a time of 21:22. Freshman Van Saroukhanian finished in 7th place with a time of 21:27. It was a promising start for a Roeper team that is in a rebuilding year after losing four runners from last year’s team. Roeper’s next varsity competition is at the MIAC Jam on 9/22 at Thelma Spenser park at 5:00 pm.
