Reimagining Roeper Summer Programs

Paula Romano
Dear Camp Families,

One of the long-standing gems of The Roeper School is our summer camp programs. Our founders, George and Annemarie Roeper, understood that summer activities provided students with the opportunity to engage in new  interests, spend time with friends, and enrich their learning opportunities. This was a concept George and Annemarie brought with them from Marienau  when they emigrated to the United States.  Camp was a time to change the pace of the school year and to try new  things.

The global pandemic  and physical distancing  have  pushed us to reimagine how to engage children in  summer  learning  and fu n opportunities for challenge and engagement .  We know the pace of summer must be different,  yet  it must also provide our  students with the opportunities they need to close gaps,  strengthen  skills, explore new interests, and stretch to new levels.

Today we are announcing our decision to shift our Roeper Summer  Programs  to an online  platform.  The School will offer a series of academic and enrichment classes designed to engage children in interesting activities, maintain connections to learning  to minimize summer slump, and offer the opportunity for  students  to extend themselves  academically  and participate in a wide range of enrichment classes before the fall semester begins.

Roeper Summer Programs Online will offer two, three, four, and six-week programs that cover a broad range of subject areas including math, language arts, theatre, art, forensics, and more.  Classes will be offered for students in preK through eleventh grade.  Classes will be made up of 10-12 students led by qualified professionals and experts in their field. The small class size promotes an active, engaging environment in which relationships can be fostered between teachers and students and amongst fellow students. Academic and enrichment style classes will meet online three to five times per week, depending on the subject, over the course of the session. Online classes will last about 1 hour per meeting.  We will also be offering some free, fun online favorite camp activities throughout the summer.
