Stage II Student Collects Crayons for Sick Children

Carolyn Borman
Brooklyn Brown saw a problem and wanted to solve it. Brooklyn has juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and knows what hospital visits are like. She saw that there were things to color but no crayons because they created a chance of contamination. She decided to do something about it by collecting crayons to give to the children to have during their hospital stays. She was inspired by discussiions they had at school about helping others.

A Detroit Free Press article on Brooklyn stated that at that time she had collected 2,639 packs of crayons. By the end of the collection which was distributed on Martin Luther King Day, there were over 5,000. WXYZ also shared her story.

Congratulations to Brooklyn for being an inspiration to us all!
