Fall Planning Update 5.29.20

Dear Roeper Community,
There is no doubt that this is a time of incredible change and uncertainty.  We all want to know what the future will bring – will we return to campus in the fall or continue our home learning program?  If we return, how will we ensure the safety of our faculty, staff, and families?  How I wish I could give you the answers to those questions.
What I can tell you is that the Roeper Board of Trustees is unified in one thought – we want to return to campus, to the school that we know and love, as quickly as we can safely do so.  Of course, the fall could bring a variety of scenarios.  The extremes are the easiest options to plan for and the faculty, staff, and administration are doing just that.  What comes in between, and the decisions that we make to determine when we’ll come back on campus and how it will look, are things we are planning for right now.
The board and administration are working closely together to establish a plan to evaluate, recommend, and make decisions about how we return to campus in the fall, as well as the panoply of scenarios before us.  We have created a committee structure to allow the experts to research and explore the best options for the various elements of our plan. The committees include:
  • Students and Parents
  • Faculty and Staff
  • Teaching and Program
  • Campus Operations
  • Finance
  • Communications
Each of these committees will report to a Steering Committee that will report to the Board of Trustees.
We want your help with this planning.  We will be hosting a series of virtual town halls and hope you will attend and share your views. Links to Zoom meetings will be shared next week.
Faculty and Staff – June 5, 4-5 pm;
Lower School parents – June 10, 6:30-7:30 pm; and
Middle and Upper School parents - June 11, 6:30-7:30 pm.
Finally, we will be communicating frequently over the summer as our plans become more concrete. Please watch for our emails and let us know if you have questions or concerns along the way.
We cannot predict the future, but we can rely on the one thing we know. We are one community at Roeper and we will continue to support and care for each other along the way.
Stay well,
Ashley Lowe
