Hybrid Camps: Day + Sports or Technology

Available to campers currently in second grade through age 12, hybrid camps offer a nice blend of day camp with a specialty camp. These campers spend half their day at Roeper Summer Day Camp participating in regular activities and the other half at a sports or technology camp, with lunch taking place in between.

After camp enrichment, swim lessons, and before and after camp care are available to all hybrid campers at an additional fee.

List of 3 items.

  • Soccer Camp (Sessions 2 & 3)

Campers work on technical and tactical aspects of soccer in a fun environment. Dribbling, passing, trapping and shooting are practiced in drills, small sided games and in full scrimmages.

All campers are dropped off at the Roeper Bloomfield Hills campus at the normal drop off time. At 9:00am campers enrolled in the Soccer Camp travel by Roeper School bus with their counselors to the Roeper Home Field at Ultimate Soccer Arena. Campers attend sports camp until 11:30am, at which time they board the bus to return to the Bloomfield Hills campus where they have lunch. For the remainder of the camp day, Hybrid campers participate in activities at the Day Camp.

This program is run by Mike Ruddy, both a teacher and coach at The Roeper School for over 30 years where he has coached both boys and girls Roeper varsity and middle school soccer teams. Ruddy has served as Roeper’s Athletic Director and has coached MS basketball and volleyball. He has a BA in Political Science and MA in History from Oakland University, where he played varsity soccer. Mike holds the National 'A' License, the USSF's highest certification, as well as the National Youth License. He coached the University of Michigan Men’s’ club team from 1987-1990, dozens of youth club soccer teams from ages 6-18, boys and girls Olympic Development soccer teams, and summer soccer camps for almost four decades. He presently coaches soccer at The Roeper School and with the Royal Oak FC.

  • Lacrosse Camp (Session 4)

Learn to play Lacrosse with All-American Lacrosse’s introductory program for boys and girls. This camp focuses on the basic skills necessary to play the game — passing, catching, ground balls, dodging and rules. Good fundamentals are critical to the development of positive habits that stay with lacrosse players, so the focus is on proper techniques. Boys and girls lacrosse are two different games, and every attempt is made to group campers by gender as enrollment allows. The camp also tries to sub-divide by age for a comfortable learning experience amongst peers. The only equipment required is a mouth guard. Each camper will receive a new Warrior or Brine lacrosse stick to use in camp and to keep afterward.

Campers are dropped off at the Roeper Bloomfield Hills campus at the normal drop off time. • Technology Camp (All Sessions)

Campers build valuable STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) skills in an inspiring setting, learning multiple technologies during their two-week session.

Two Technology Camp sessions are offered each day. Campers enrolled in the Technology Camp Morning session attend from 9am-noon and, after lunch, participate in the regularly scheduled afternoon activities at the Day Camp. Campers enrolled in the Technology Camp Afternoon session attend the Day Camp in the morning and, after lunch, attend the Technology Camp from 12:30-3:30pm in a computer lab on the Roeper Bloomfield Hills campus.

Sessions 1 and 3 include game design using MIT’s Scratch and app development using Bitsbox JavaScript. Campers in sessions 2 and 4 learn 3D printing using TinkerCAD and multi-player game design with Roblox Studio. Additionally, campers gain experience storyboarding and problem solving and develop presentation skills in each session. Our mission is to provide an engaging and personalized learning experience.

Technology Camp is offered by AccelerateKID Summer Tech Camps, who set out to reinvent “tech camps” to create future creators for the 21st Century.
