Roeper All School Book Discussion - December 5th & 6th

Sarah Miller
Together the administration and the RPC would like to invite you to participate in our upcoming All School Book Discussions. We hope you will join us on either December 5th or 6th to discuss this book together and find support within our community on this parenting journey! We encourage you to come even if you haven't read the book - the information and support will still be very valuable.

The carefully selected title for this first All School Read is: How to Raise and Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid for Success by Julie Lythcott-Haims. The book is relevant, timely and applicable for all parenting stages.
There will be two opportunities to discuss the book with David, Emery and fellow Roeper parents:

RPC Coffee Talk: Wednesday, December 5, 8:30-10:00am

Evening Opportunity: Thursday, December 6, 6:30-8:00pm

More information on the book:
In How to Raise an Adult, Julie Lythcott-Haims draws on research, on conversations with admissions officers, educators, and employers, and on her own insights as a mother and as a student dean to highlight the ways in which overparenting harms children, their stressed-out parents, and society at large. While empathizing with the prenatal hopes and, especially, fears that lead to overhelping. Lythcott-Haims offers practical alternative strategies that underline the importance of allowing children to make their own mistakes and develop the resilience, resourcefulness, and inner determination necessary for success. Relevant to parents of toddlers as well as of twentysomethings - and of special value to parents of teens - this book is a rallying cry for those who wish to ensure that the next generation can take charge of their own lives with competence and confidence.
