Celebrating Alumni - Anika Kumar '02

Juliette Olejnik
Anika Kumar graduated from The Roeper School in 2002, after starting her Roeper journey in Stage II. After graduation, Anika completed a Bachelors and Masters in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan - College of Engineering. She subsequently obtained her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. Anika completed her Pediatrics Residency training at University Hospitals Case Medical Center, Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital and went on to work as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey, PA. Anika now works for the Cleveland Clinic where she cares for hospitalized children at Cleveland Clinic Children's, and is Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University.

Throughout her career in Pediatrics, Anika has stayed true to the values of equity and advocacy; values she developed as a Roeper student. She has used her role as a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics to advocate for children's health, education and safety at a national level, including helping to develop the American Academy of Pediatrics' national campaign to educate pediatricians and voters on child health issues during the 2020 election.

"Roeper taught me the importance of listening to the community and assuring that all voices are heard, no matter how loud. I have embraced those lessons and applied them to my child advocacy work, assuring that children's voices are heard. I am forever grateful to my teachers, classmates and the entire Roeper community for all that they have taught me over the years and their continued support as we work together to make the world a better place for all its citizens."
