Alumni Spirit Week Celebrates Alums - Sam Wolson '07

Juliette Olejnik
It is Alumni Spirit Week and we're celebrating individuals who make up our one-of-a-kind alumni community!

Sam Wolson ’07 is an immersive film director and photographer who covers stories about humanitarian and environmental issues. Sam’s projects have ranged from a three year documentation of one man’s struggle in a gentrifying Bay Area community to exposing the bombing of civilians in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan. His work has been featured in National Geographic, The New York Times, The New Yorker, and Sundance. “Roeper taught me to constantly question my role in the world and the impact I have. As an adult, this constant questioning has taken me down the path of journalism.”

His latest project “Reeducated” takes viewers inside a “reeducation” camp in Xinjiang, China, guided by the recollections of three men who were caught in what is likely the largest mass-internment drive of ethnic and religious minorities since the Second World War. “Reeducated” premieres March 16 at SXSW.

When Sam isn’t out in the field working, he enjoys watching movies with his wife and two cats in Tunisia where he currently lives. He’s a #RoeperAlum.
