Responding to The Capitol Insurrection as a Parent Community

Sarah Mille
Honoring the social justice foundation that our school was built upon, we would like to invite our parent community to engage in dialogue about the events that took place at our capitol on January 6th, 2021. As the parents of Roeper students, we feel called to model how we live our social justice philosophy when events like this occur. By coming together to process these events, we are better prepared to process with our children and to work together to determine how we, as a school community, determine what values we stand for. It is in learning from each other and with each other that we nurture a Roeper community that is united in demonstrating to our students how we "engage as a community with compassion for each other and the world."

WAAG (White Antiracist Ally Group) and the Families of Color Affinity Group each held separate meetings in January to begin the work of processing these events in affinity spaces. The RPC now invites us to combine as a full community in February to continue this conversation as we work to ensure that, as Roeper parents, we are modeling our philosophy and core tenets for our children.

Please join us Tuesday, February 23rd from 6:30-8:00pm for a moderated discussion.

The Zoom Link will be found in upcoming newsletters.
