Reading the book is not necessary to attend, please join these engaging presentations! They will be a half-hour well spent!

Week Five (Friday, July 31st): Due Date “Stamped”: Racism and Children’s Publishing. Professor Sarah Park Dahlen (bio below) will discuss diversity trends in youth literature publishing; give a brief background on Asian American representations in media and youth literature; and provide guidelines for evaluating diversity in youth literature.

Presenter Bio: Sarah Park Dahlen earned her MS and PhD in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois and her MA and BA in Asian American Studies from UCLA. She is an associate professor in the MLIS Program at St. Catherine University. She co-founded and co-edits Research on Diversity in Youth Literature with Gabrielle Halko, co-edited Diversity in Youth Literature with Jamie Campbell Naidoo, and co-edited the Children’s Literature Association Quarterly’s Special Issue on Orphanhood and Adoption in Children’s Literature with Lies Wesseling. Her next books address race in the wizarding world with Ebony Elizabeth Thomas and Asian American youth literature with Paul Lai. sarahpark.com @readingspark (82)
