Amazon Corporate Culture: "We Wear The Masks". This discussion will focus on how people of color often have to negotiate being their authentic selfs in corporate culture. There are two sides within the corporate environment, even for companies that are seen as progressive. One side is the systematic racist policies and procedures that create a culture that the other side, social justice groups fight to change. Presenter Bio: Olacoy Lawyer, founder of “I Live to Speak Out Loud”, professional speaker, voice-over actor, and talent development professional. Olacoy has focused on inspiring and changing the mindset of professionals and students to achieve their full potential as leaders by improving their knowledge, skills and abilities for over 20 years. Her expertise includes the development and implementation of a variety of workshops for Fortune 500 companies, private, government, and non-profit organizations.
Olacoy holds a bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University, and an M. P. A., with distinction, from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Earlier in her career, she was a scholarship recipient and participated in the nationally-ranked Wayne State University’s speech and debate team. She has worked as a coach for the Forensics’ Team at the Roeper High School, where she participated in the state qualifying Forensics’ Team, Class of 95’. She is currently completing her doctoral studies at the University of Phoenix, with a research focus on learning organizations, team dynamics, and technology. Currently, she facilitates on subjects such as management, learning technology, the multigenerational workforce, board development, diversity and inclusion, small business development, healthcare, government, career development, global workforce development, and leadership.
Olacoy is a member of several professional organizations, including the Association for Talent Development (ATD) Maryland Board of Directors, Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), and Life Science Trainer and Educator Network. She is active with Zeta Phi Beta, Inc. graduate chapter, League of Women Voters and serves as a volunteer for the Stork’s Nest Foundation, a cooperative project of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and the March of Dimes Foundation.
