Roeper Parent Conversation: Social Justice in Action within our Own Community

Sarah Miller
The Roeper School remains committed to its social justice philosophy. A portion of the 2010 philosophy statement reads:

We understand each person, child and adult to be a whole human being, worthy of respect and recognition, deserving every opportunity to fulfill his or her potential…We understand diversity as fundamental to the human condition. We value diversity of all kinds - including, for example, thought and background, as well as race and religion - and because we encourage differences, we learn things from one another that we could not learn in a homogenous setting. Diversity and interdependence foster competence as much as compassion, and nurture excellence as much as empathy.

With the direction of the Families of Color Affinity Group & the White Antiracist Ally Group (WAAG), the RPC invites you to a conversation about social justice in action within our own community. Understanding that the Roeper philosophy has always been aspirational, we must continually assess how well our actions and behaviors are measuring up to the philosophy. Please join us for this important discussion so that we as parents can assess our needs to more fully live out our commitment to social justice and determine how best to partner with the school to ensure they are met.
