Gene Luen Yang
Through his work for children and young adults as a graphic novelist and cartoonist, Gene Luen Yang shows the great potential of this medium to broaden the understanding of diverse cultures. Boxers & Saints, his graphic novel about the Boxer Rebellion was nominated for a National Book Award and won the L.A. Times Book Prize. In 2016, the Library of Congress, Every Child A Reader, and the Children’s Book Council appointed him the National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. Yang received a B.S. from the University of California at Berkeley and an M.A. from California State University at East Bay. He currently teaches in Hamline University’s MFA program in Writing for Children and Young Adults.
