Where Gifted Students Love to Learn

A Roeper education has many possible outcomes, and our goal is to prepare students with the skills and knowledge to navigate the unknowns of the future while actively involving them in the process. Our students engage with inquiry-driven learning focused around problems, project, and complex questions, and we emphasize the importance of independent and critical thinking that lead students to become active stakeholders in their education and communities. With our holistic approach, Roeper succeeds in matriculating students of uncommon excellence to the schools and opportunities of their choice.

Roeper is a uniquely personalized school offering an empowering educational environment from preschool through 12th grade. Founded in 1941 by George and Annemarie Roeper, Roeper has become an international leader in gifted education, serving over communities throughout southeast Michigan. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, and base admission on gifted IQ test scores, prior academic performance, teacher recommendations, and a personal interview.

Frequently Asked Questions

List of 7 frequently asked questions.

  • What are your application deadlines?

We do not have a specific deadline for applications, but we do encourage families to apply in the fall/winter prior to the year they wish to enroll.
  • Do you have a birthdate cutoff for enrollment?

There is no specific cut-off date for children entering school. We evaluate each child individually to determine the best placement for the child, dependent on each child’s unique social, emotional and academic needs.
  • Do you have a before school care and after school care program?

Lower School children may attend the before care program from 7:30-8:15am and/or the aftercare program at dismissal until 6:00pm. An hourly rate applies. Students are provided quality supervision, nutritious snacks, and a quiet area for reading and homework. Opportunities for board games, storytelling, arts and crafts and indoor/outdoor play are offered. Charges are billed monthly by the Business Office. After school enrichment courses are also offered each semester.
  • Does Roeper provide transportation to and from school?

No, however, if you live in Bloomfield Hills or Birmingham, you are entitled to use the public school buses for transportation to The Roeper School. Please contact your public school system for further information. Those looking for carpool opportunities are encouraged to access the Family Directory for families in their area or contact the Business Office for assistance.

A convenient shuttle bus service is available between the Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills campuses each morning and afternoon.
  • Is lunch included in your tuition?

At the Lower School, we do offer a hot lunch program that is prepared by Chartwells, a company that provides lunch service to many of the area private schools. Students are welcome to bring their own lunch. A year-long lunch program is available for purchase as are punch cards. Middle and Upper School students may purchase food items at the Chartwells lunch cart.
  • Does Roeper offer world language courses?

In the Lower School, Stage I Domes and Stage II students take French at a level that matches their ability. Stage III and Stage IV students have a choice of continuing to study French or learning Spanish. Middle and Upper School students may take French, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, or Latin. We offer Advanced Placement classes in French, Spanish and Latin.
  • Do you offer merit scholarships?

No, we offer only need-based scholarships and financial aid. Some schools offer merit scholarships to enrich their populations with particularly strong students, but given our gifted student body, it would be difficult to single out particular students based on merit. Roeper is philosophically committed to recognizing and honoring the unique gifts of each student.
