The Roeper Photography Workshop Camp will teach interested students to work in a wet lab darkroom.
The darkroom experience is a wonderful way for students interested in photography to explore the magic of black and white pinhole photography using an authentic darkroom. This is a hands-on experience for students currently in 6th to 11th grades. Students will shoot a variety of pinhole cameras starting with the standard oatmeal container. Students will produce paper negatives, make positives in the darkroom and learn how to hand-color black and white photographs. All materials are provided. Students will also have the opportunity to scan their pinhole images, and work on them digitally in Photoshop. In addition students will be able to work with digital images that they bring with them to camp.
In case of inclement weather where students are unable to go outside, the students will then be using digital equipment.
Photography Workshop Camp is led by Roeper faculty member, Michelle Stamler. Michelle holds a Bachelor's Degree in Art History from Oakland University. Michelle has been teaching photography at The Roeper School for 24 years, currently teaching darkroom photography, digitial photography, digital video editing and graphic design to middle and upper school students. Michelle, a freelance and fine art photographer began her career in England and has exhibited Europe and across the United States.
