Choosing an independent education is unquestionably expensive but our families find that the advantages of a Roeper education for their child are well worth the cost. The school’s personalized curriculum and careful cultivation of each child’s emotional growth and well-being will pay rewards for years to come in students who grow to become confident, creative and productive adults.

Tuition refund insurance offered by A.W.G. Dewar provides your family partial financial protection should your child be withdrawn from the school, subject to the terms of the policy. The premium rate for the 2013-14 academic year is 1.3% of the total tuition for your oldest child covered, with a proportionate reduction for those on Financial Aid and billed annually in July. The fee for your 2nd child covered under the plan is .7% and there is no fee for the 3rd and 4th children. Participation is required for families taking advantage of the School’s FACTS installment program. Coverage is optional but recommended for families who elect to pay the tuition in full by August 1st.
We believe that it is important for the family’s commitment to the school and its philosophy to participate financially to the extent they are able. However, if after investigating other options, you are still not able to afford the full cost of tuition, you are encouraged to apply for financial aid from The Roeper School. We use School and Student Services (SSS) to process our financial aid applications, which is a service of the National Association of Independent Schools. Based on the financial information you provide, SSS gives us an estimated amount that your family can contribute to educational expenses. They look at many factors, including a family’s total income, assets, net worth and discretionary income, to estimate ability to pay tuition. The Scholarship and Financial Aid Committee reviews both the SSS report and required backup documentation, which helps our school make fair and objective financial aid decisions. The final decision as to whether to make a grant as well as the amount of the grant is made solely by the school’s Scholarship and Financial Aid Committee. Due to the number of applicants and the limits of our resources, very few awards cover fifty percent of the total cost of tuition.
Families are encouraged to begin their financial aid applications as early as possible by submitting an on-line Parent Financial Statement (PFS) by going to http://sss.nais.org . The Roeper School also requires the following backup documentation: most recent federal income tax return, W-2s, and recent paystubs. Families must reapply each year by submitting a PFS and new documentation. Awards are reviewed annually and may be adjusted to reflect changes in the financial status of the family and the relative need of other families applying for aid. New families may apply for financial aid as they begin the admissions process.
For the children of divorced or separated parents, we ask that a separate PFS form be completed for the household of each biological parent. The PFS must include income information for each parent’s household, including that from step-parents or guardians, if applicable. A non-custodial parent must complete a PFS even if he or she is not required to pay child support. This requirement may be waived if the whereabouts of the non-custodial parent is unknown.

The Roeper School offers several types of scholarships. All are need-based, since in a school for the gifted it would be difficult to single out particular students for merit. All scholarships require submission of a PFS and backup documentation as outlined above; certain scholarships may have additional procedures and criteria. The Admissions Office can advise applicants as to their eligibility and whether there are openings. All recipients must successfully complete the standard entry requirements for the school. Eligibility requirements for scholarship consideration and scholarship awards are determined by the Scholarship and Financial Aid Committee.
A significant aspect of The Roeper School is the commitment to tuition assistance in order to meet our racial, ethnic and socioeconomic diversity goals. Roeper enjoys support from individuals and foundations as major partners in this vital enterprise, including the Skillman and Bretzlaff Foundations. Endowments established by the Malone Family Foundation and the Wetsman and Kellogg families have provided a permanent source of funding for the school to support scholarship programs.
