SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION

Roeper Summer Stock Theatre is proud to be a recipient of an annual gift in support of scholarships from The Jack Oakie & Victoria Horne Oakie Charitable Foundation. Jack Oakie Scholarships will be available annually for 6th through 12th grade students to the Roeper Summer Stock Theatre Program.

Jack Oakie worked steadily in the film industry from 1927 through the 1940’s, and was under contract at Paramount Studios from 1929 to 1934. His career encompassed stage, film, radio and later, television. He appeared in 87 films, co-staring with Lucille Ball, John Payne, Shirley Temple, Betty Grable and others, and he was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actor for his role as Il Duce of Bacteria in the 1940 Charlie Chaplin film The Great Dictator.

Both Jack and Victoria, who appeared in Harvey with Jimmy Stewart, were long-time residents of the San Fernando Valley (California). They were known for being philanthropists and humanitarians throughout their lives. Continuing their legacy of giving, The Oakie Charitable Foundation trustees remain dedicated to the couple’s wishes: “Give the money to the kids!”

Additionally, Roeper Summer Stock Junior Scholarships will be available annually.
