Middle School Cross Country Comes to Roeper
10/7/2009 3:45:00 PM

The Roeper Middle School Cross Country Program is growing and running great in only its second season. The team has jumped from 17 in its first year to 32 this season and has brought home a number of championship trophies. Spurring on some of the enthusiasm for Roeper Cross Country is the new home 2 mile course.

At the end of the first season, the students asked, “why don’t we make a home course,” states Glen Maylath, Roeper’s Boys and Girls, Middle School Cross Country Coach. The seed was planted and over the ten months between seasons, volunteers helped create additional trails and refine the existing ones. The Bloomfield Hills campus provides a great setting for the hilly course which includes trails, mowed lawn, and wood chipped paths. “Cross Country is a great sport, offering both individual and team athletics,” says Maylath. “Whether a student is a racer or just wants to be in great shape for another sport, Cross Country builds physical and mental toughness.”

The Middle School Cross Country team has three races left in their season.

The Roeper School is a co-educational independent day school serving gifted children from over 60 communities in southeast Michigan, Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 and is an equal opportunity institution.
